FAQ
Frequently asked questions about DuelBot.
Why do I need to link my Steam account?
+
DuelBot needs your Steam ID to register you on the game server. When a match starts, the server uses Steam authentication to verify players and track scores. Without linking, the server wouldn't know who you are.
Is my Steam account data safe?
+
Yes. We only store your Steam ID (a public identifier) to register you on match servers. We never have access to your Steam password or any private account information. The linking process uses Steam's official OpenID authentication.
Why didn't I receive a DM from DuelBot?
+
Make sure DMs from server members are enabled in your Discord privacy settings. Go to Server Settings → Privacy Settings → Enable 'Allow direct messages from server members'. DuelBot cannot send you messages if this is disabled.
How does the ELO system work?
+
DuelBot uses a standard ELO rating system. You start at 1000 ELO. Winning against higher-rated players earns more points, while losing to lower-rated players costs more. The system ensures fair matches by pairing players with similar ratings.
How long does the queue last?
+
The matchmaking queue times out after 10 minutes. You'll see a live countdown in the queue message. If no opponent is found within that time, you'll be notified and removed from the queue automatically.
Can I play if my opponent has much higher/lower ELO?
+
The queue system tries to match players within a similar ELO range for fair games. Direct challenges with /duel bypass this restriction, so you can challenge anyone regardless of rating.
What happens if I disconnect during a match?
+
The server tracks the match until completion. If you disconnect and don't return, the match will eventually time out or your opponent will win by forfeit. Reconnect using the connection details sent to your DMs.
How do I report a bug or issue?
+
Join our Discord support server and report issues in the #support channel. Include as much detail as possible: what command you used, what happened, and what you expected to happen.
Can I use DuelBot for tournaments?
+
DuelBot is designed for casual 1v1 matchmaking. For organized tournaments, you may want additional features like brackets and scheduling. Contact us if you're interested in tournament support.
